Storm

Why must it rain?
Blue sky turns grey, clouds rolling
Thunder crashing,
Lightning flashes
Rain falls.

It is cold
And wet
And dark
Teardrops pour,
Blinding me.

I can’t see the sun,
The light is veiled
From view.

Is there still light, when I can’t see it?

Beneath the earth, life stirs.
Dead roots begin to flower,
And stretch
And grow,
Watered with tears,
In the rich soil of pain.

Then the clouds roll back,
Revealing the sky,
It is still there.
The sun is still there.

Now the earth is alive
Quiet broken
Stillness shattered
By life.

He lives, and therefore, so do I.
